Question from Should Be Reading...
When you walk into a bookstore — any bookstore — what’s the first section you head toward (what draws you)?
I always go to the African American section. I am always curious and excited to see what my favorite authors have written or to find books of theirs that I was not aware of. What draws me is knowing that a great book from Ntozake Shange is waiting for me to pick it up. Or I can't wait to pick up a book by Sonia Sanchez and read an amazing poem by her. I know it will be in that particular section of the store. Then I always go to the poetry section. I was talking to someone yesterday about loving that fact that I am reading outside of my favorite genre. As a teenager I read different genres on a regularly basis. I am looking forward to exploring and discovering new authors this year. I will still go to the African American section first and poetry section second but after that I will be going into different sections of the store ready to explore.
