So my love for books started as a kid. My mom had me in book clubs starting at the age of 5. She would order Golden Books for me and I would get 4 Golden Books delivered in the mail every month. Then I progressed to The Bernstein Bears books. I loved reading what Brother and Sister were up to.:) I thought it would be cool to post my reading habits through the years.
Toddler- Golden Books
Elementary-I loved all of the Bernstein Bears books during my elementary years. My favorite book was Are You The God? It's Me Margaret by Judy Blume
High School- Sweet Valley High Books I loved that series! I was also into Judy Blume books. Towards the end of high school I started reading Historical Romances and Harlequin Romances. I read a few Stephen King books. That genre did not do it for me. Could not get into horror. I also read The Autobiography of Malcolm X for the first time! That book changed my perception about a lot of things. That is when I wanted to start reading more books about African Americans. I became introduced to Alice Walker and read her book The Color Purple I started reading books by Maya Angelou the first book I read by her was I Know Why The Cage Bird Sings.
College- When I entered college I no longer read romances. I wanted to get into books dedicated to African Americans. I was into reading books by Toni Morrison and poetry by Nikki Giovanni and Maya Angelou. Poetry was huge for me during the first few years of college! Richard Wright, and Sonia Sanchez took me places!! Especially Sonia Sanchez. After discovering many different and amazing African American Writers I stopped reading books by authors other than African Americans. I related more to books about the African American experience and the Africa Diaspora of course. I did not want to read any romance novels for me it was all about enlightenment and learning my history (African American History).
Presently....
I am still about books related to African Americans and the African Diaspora but I have became engrossed in romances again. Smiling right now as a type because I love books by Brenda Jacskon. I found a book of hers at a book fair a few summers ago and have been reading books by her every since. Romance novels by her have made their way into my always growing book collection. My goal is to read one romance novel by Brenda Jackson and other books on my TBR every month.
I really can't imagine my life without books. Reading will always be my favorite past time!-:)
